1. How Does Your Lock Work
Master locks have cylinders in them with two sets of pins. An upper pin and a lower pin. The key pushes the lower pin and the upper pin into place. While the upper pins are out of the way the cylinder can turn and the lock can be opened.
2. Get Some Tools
While James Bond may prefer a bobby pin or paper clip, it is best to have some tools built for the job. You will need a torque wrench and pick.
3. The Tension Wrench First
The tension wrench should be inserted in the bottom of the lock.
4. Discover The Turing Direction
Which way does the lock turn? Try applying pressure on the torque wrench in a counterclockwise and clockwise motion, the one with the most give is the way it should be turned.
5. Apply Pressure
Put pressure on the torque wrench in the direction that the lock is suppose to turn. This is a trial and error to determine the correct pressure.
6. Pick
Feel the pins. Get an idea how much pressure the springs on the top of the pins will apply to the pin.
7. Pin Playing
Find the pin that has the most resistance. This is going to be your starting point.
8. Pin Setting
Push the pin until the bottom pin falls freely and the upper pin is in place. You will here a slight noise when it is in place.
9. Do it again
Repeat steps 7 and 8.
10. Open The Lock
Once all the pins are in place open the lock.
